Keep Forging Ahead! Know Your Status!

Miss Jacquie: Posted on Saturday, September 07, 2019 2:00 AM

No matter what comes your way; forge ahead.

When the light of day breaks, open your eyes and rise!

For another day has come, a gift to uphold,

Arise I say and prepare to be bold!

Forge ahead! Forge ahead! Forge ahead!

The United States Congress has designated SEPTEMBER as National Sickle Cell Awareness Month! A time to celebrate the warriors battling this disease; a time to dig into our pockets and support research for a common, wide-spread cure; a time to celebrate our lives right where we are as advocates and educators; a time to celebrate the opportunity to make a difference; and a time to forge ahead!

When Enough is Enough.

Taking on too much, not knowing when to say "No" is a trademark of so many of us in today's high-tech, busy life space. When you meet yourself going to bed and waking to start your day. Enough already! When you have three kids and you keep mixing up their names, enough. When you are too tired to just lay down and go to sleep, enough. When your work has you consistently putting in 10-15 hours overtime every week, enough. All these examples mean that your life is severely out of balance and you are out of focus.

"Make it Plain"

It's been quite some time since I communicated with you. Having been through a life-altering event, I now know all the more, just how important it is to appreciate every breath, every moment of life. Seven months ago, my son and I were in an auto accident. It was a traumatizing experience. We still have on-going challenges today and continue with medical care. I now live with pain all the time. It never goes away; it does not care if I'm tired. It does not care if I have to go to work. It does not care if I'm playing with my children. It does not care if I'm caring for my loved ones. It is pain; it has no reasoning. I now know just how my daughter, my friends, and those whom I serve feel when they have Sickle Cell pain crises that are relentless. It's a pain that makes one feel like losing hope; sometimes like just giving up on everything and everyone. I'm telling you now, you are not alone. We are not alone. We are in this journey together. Life is truly what you make of it. When in pain know that you can feel. When in pain, know that you have life although nit may hurt. when in pain, know that it is not forever. Remember that you are cared for, you are loved, and that you have favor. Believe in your power to say "I can make it today."

Cool Weather & The Kiddos

SCACURE wants to know what's on the mind of Moms and Dads this morning who awoke to a cranky child proclaiming, today's not a day for school because my shoulder aches or some other ache......and you know what comes next.....I think I'm having sickle-cell related pain. The reality is that this could be true. It could be due to the weather changing. Fall is here. Its getting cooler. Bundle those babies up and make sure their heads (and little fingers) are covered. Protecting the extremities from the cool temps can save us Moms and Dads headaches later on. ~Make it Plain!
